Baeeo is a free cell phone tracking service that uses cell tower data to identify the location of family and friends without the need for GPS. Your cell phone knows which cell towers are in range and this information is sent to the Baeeo server which translates the cell tower id and signal strength into latitude and longitude coordinates that is presented using Google Maps or spreadsheet.
Currently most Windows Mobile Smartphone's are supported. We are working to increase the number of supported devices and encourage mobile developers to create services for other mobile phones using the Baeeo API found here
Yes, there is a developer API for mobile developers to send cell tower data to Baeeo, more details found here.
Using the cell tower data is not as accurate as Global Position Satellites (GPS) typically cell sizes can vary from 300 yards in cities to 2.5 miles in rural areas. We are working on a more advanced method that would provide higher accuracy.
We do not charge any fees to use the Baeeo service, data usage through your mobile service provider may apply.
